The 2024 LeMans MotoGP race has strong potential to become a candidate for the most epic race of the 2024 season, not only because it has set a new record for the number of spectators, breaking last year’s record at the same place, but also because of the racing action that occurred, especially for the top three finishers. Marc Marquez’s splashing action after starting from grid position 13 was not as exciting as what he did in the Sprint where he was able to climb from P13 to P6 in the first two corners. . . In Sunday’s Grand Prix race, in general, Marc only managed to move up 5 positions after starting from P13 to P8 on the first lap. This seems to have been expected by everyone, but what was interesting was to see something else after that first lap.
For 20 laps it seemed a bit boring to see Pecco at the front just being peeked at by Jorge Martin, but Marc Marquez started to carry out silent operations without moving again for 17 laps so that from 8th position he could reach the podium finish position. It was recorded that Morbidelli, Vinales, Diggia and Aleix were successful victims of Marc Marquez at that time.
However, there is something interesting that TMCblog saw, namely how very patient Marc was in doing all this and looked very calculated until finally Marc was able to race what Pecco did 14 days before with a wide range on the last lap of the 2024 LeMans MotoGP Grand Prix race and celebrate his 2024 GP race. 1000 Gresini with very good moments.
“Yes, today we ‘cooked’ the podium in a slower way. It’s true that yesterday was an unbelievable start and gave me second place in the Sprint. But the most important thing is that yesterday we had the pace to come back.
“Today I knew the pace was there so I slowly tried to pass the other riders and when I was already in third place we lost time for a while [when] with Diggia. But from that point it was OK, 4th place was OK, but I saw that I could catch them (Pecco & Martin). The pace was there and yes I initially expected Pecco to attack Martin on the last lap, but that didn’t happen. Then I decided to attack him (Pecco).”
Marc Marquez finished P2 for his 142nd GP podium, 10 fewer than MotoGP legend Jorge Lorenzo who is fourth on the list of racers with the most podiums in all classes. After Marquez finished second in the Spanish GP, this was his first podium again in consecutive GP races since 2021 (America/Emilia-Romagna). With Jorge Martin ahead of Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia, Ducati recorded 51 consecutive MotoGP Grand Prix races with at least one rider on the Podium.
With the results of this race, Jorge Martin maintained his highest temporary championship position after 5 draws with 129 points and was 38 points away from Pecco Bagnaia in second place. Bagnaia finished P3, for his 38th podium in MotoGP, all with Ducati. He now has two fewer podiums than MotoGP legend Andrea Dovizioso, who is second on Ducati’s list with the most podiums behind MotoGP legend Casey Stoner (42).
Martin leads the MotoGP World Championship with 129 points, 38 points ahead of Bagnaia. This means that Martin is guaranteed to still be in the lead after the Catalan GP in two weeks, whatever happens there. Martin took his seventh MotoGP win and second of the year with Portugal, all with Ducati. Martin is now equal with Loris Capirossi in fourth place on the list of most successful Ducati racers in MotoGP.
LeMans also marks Marc Marquez returning to the Top-3 championship position with a fairly close distance to Pecco, namely only 2 points. Rookie Pedro Acosta crashed out for the first time in a MotoGP race after finishing P6 in the Tissot Sprint on Saturday. Before the French GP, he was the only rider to consistently score points in all Sprint and Grand Prix races. Currently Acosta is still in 6th position in the drivers’ standings.
The Sprint and Grand Prix wins by Ducati racers made the manufacturer from Borgo Panigale – Italy even stronger in leading the manufacturing standings with a distance of 63 points from KTM in second place and Aprilia in third position.
At LeMans, thanks to the achievements of Martin and Morbidelli, Pramac Racing became the team with the largest points tally, namely 46 points. However, in general it is still Ducati Lenovo who leads the MotoGP team standings for the first 5 series with a distance of 36 points from Pramac Racing.
The Spanish trio of Jorge Martin, Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta lead the top-10 satellite team rider standings where Martin leads Marc Marquez by 40 points. Followed 16 points later by Pedro Acosta who happened to DNF in the Grand Prix race.
Meanwhile, Pramac Racing leads the satellite team standings with 144 points and is 22 points away from Gresini Racing, which is guarded by the Marquez brothers duo.
