Dani Pedrosa will return to the MotoGP race weekend Jerez 2024 as wildcard rider. With the 2024 spec RC16 engine, Pedrosa plans to test several ‘different solution ideas’ and then provide his decision on these ideas so that Brad Binder and Jack Miller can test them during the one-day test next Monday.
“I’m testing several different ideas,” said Pedrosa, starting his explanation. “You will see it once we are on top motorcycle. A little detail here and there. That’s our main focus and if we can get good feedback over the weekend, it could be a good time for the factory riders to clarify things on Monday.”
However, Dani Pedrosa’s performance record on several previous wildcard occasions could be said to provide a fairly high benchmark for other KTM/GasGas racers and this made Pedro Acosta reveal at the press conference that regardless of Dari’s personal goals, this rookie racer saw that Pedrosa’s presence meant adding one more rivals on the track for him.
“It would be nice to be able to race [the MotoGP class] for the first time in Jerez is with all the fans, because this is the biggest race for us this season, and it’s true that last year, Brad and Jack were fast, as was Dani when he raced wildcard,
“It’s true that sometimes you feel stronger at times when the motor works fine. We have a lot of question marks, and it’s true that yesterday was a good weekend for us overall in America, but we don’t know how. I will ride in Jerez. We also have to think that we have one more wildcard: Dani Pedrosa, who will be more of a rival than a help, but it would be great to ride with him.”
There is the potential for Acosta to make history at Jerez. Pedro Acosta will be 19 years 339 days old on Sunday of the 2024 Jerez MotoGP race day, if he wins the Grand Prix race, he will become the youngest winner of the premier class, taking Marc Marquez’s record (20 years 63 days in Austin in 2013). When asked how much he would like to add his name to the history books in Jerez, Acosta answered.
“Again, I have to start Friday with FP1 because Friday is a difficult day for me to understand the tyres, motorbikes, and tracks. So let’s try to work as best as possible and stay calm in difficult times. We knew it was coming. , but we have to stay grounded and not think about anything.”
