Car Wheel Maintenance to Prevent Stuck Wheels

Car wheels are one of the important components that support vehicle performance. However, wheel maintenance is often neglected by many car owners. However, if the rims are not properly maintained, the wheels can get stuck, which will disrupt driving comfort and even potentially endanger safety.

Here are some tips for maintaining car wheels so that they run smoothly and do not get stuck:

1. Check the Condition of the Rims Regularly

It is important to regularly check the condition of the rims, especially after traveling long distances or through damaged roads. Check for scratches, damage, or corrosion on the surface of the rim. Such damage can cause the wheel to not rotate smoothly or even hinder the wheel’s movement.

2. Clean the Rims Regularly

Brake dust, dirt, and road salt can adhere to the rims and damage them over time. Therefore, make sure to clean the rims regularly using car wash soap and a soft brush. Avoid using harsh chemicals as they can damage the protective coating of the rims.

3. Check the Condition of the Tires

Sometimes, problems with a stuck wheel can be caused by issues with the tire, such as leaks or improper air pressure. Check the air pressure regularly and make sure the tires are not worn or damaged. Unbalanced or under-inflated tires can cause the wheels to move unevenly.

4. Make sure the wheel bolts are securely fastened.

Loose wheel bolts can cause the wheel to move unstably or even cause the wheel to jam. Make sure all the wheel bolts are tightened and according to factory specifications. Use the correct torque wrench to ensure that the bolts are securely installed.

5. Maintain the Condition of the Rim’s Footing

Dirty or rusty rims in the wheel area can cause the wheel to rotate unevenly. Make sure the area where the rim meets the wheel axle is clean and free from dirt or rust. Use special lubricant to ensure smooth wheel movement and prevent the wheels from getting stuck.

6. Use Anti-Corrosion Lubricant

Corrosion or rust can cause the rims and wheels to get stuck. To prevent this, use anti-corrosion lubricant on parts prone to rust, especially on the wheel hub and areas connected to the rim. This lubricant will help protect those parts from damage caused by moisture or road salt.

7. Don’t Wash Your Car Too Often Using an Automatic Car Wash

Automatic car washes can use high-pressure water that can damage the protective coating on the rims. This can cause rust or dirt that is more difficult to clean to adhere to the rims. It’s better to wash the car manually to ensure the wheels remain in good condition.

8. Pay attention to the condition of the brake system.

Sometimes, a stuck wheel can be caused by a problem with the braking system, such as a locked brake. If you notice any issues with the braking system, have it checked at a workshop immediately. Brakes that do not function properly can cause the rims and wheels to jam or even become more dangerous.

9. Conduct Regular Inspections at the Workshop

Take your car to the workshop for a regular inspection. The mechanic will be able to detect problems with the rims or other wheel systems that could cause the wheels to jam. Routine inspections will help you avoid more severe damage in the future.

10. Avoid Driving on Uneven Roads

Bumpy or pothole-filled roads can cause damage to the rims and wheel system. If possible, avoid driving on uneven roads to keep the rims in good condition.

Conclusion

Car wheel maintenance is very important to ensure that the wheels can rotate smoothly and the vehicle remains safe to use. By performing regular maintenance and keeping the cleanliness and condition of related components, you can avoid wheel jam issues. Don’t forget to always check the condition of the rims and wheels regularly so that your car is always ready to be used in prime condition.
